Data Center Cybersecurity Assessment

A comprehensive, independent cyber-risk assessment methodology built for the full data center technology estate — IT, OT, IoT, and physical security systems.

Data centers underpin the world’s most critical digital services, and are increasingly targeted by ransomware groups and state-aligned actors. Governments and regulators worldwide have responded, designating data centers as national critical digital infrastructure across every major market, and placing new cybersecurity requirements on service providers and enterprises alike.

The Uptime Data Center Cybersecurity Assessment (DCCA) was developed specifically for the data center. Developed via extensive global market research findings mapped to key cybersecurity control standards, DCCA evaluates cybersecurity posture across IT systems, operational technology (OT), IoT infrastructure, along with physical and cyber controls across 14 domains.

Many organizations set too much focus on large-scale attacks. This when the most significant and more likely risk is common malware affecting OT and IT systems running older, unpatched operating systems — even in air-gapped environments. Threat vectors include removable media and software upgrades. As these systems become more interconnected through BMS (Building Management Systems), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), ICS (Industrial Control System) and Energy and Cooling Management Systems, and as third-party vendor access continues to expand, the attack surface grows.

DCCA is designed for data center operators, colocation providers, and enterprises that own and operate their own facilities. Organizations that complete the assessment receive a detailed report and a prioritized remediation roadmap — to provide a credible, independent baseline for internal governance, risk and compliance, regulatory reporting, and client assurance.

Data Center Cybersecurity Research from Uptime Intelligence

Uptime Institute continuously researches and monitors cyber resiliency and associated risks in critical digital infrastructure for over two decades:

OT Security: Rising Critical Vulnerabilities, Widespread Risks

Uptime Intelligence has shown that operational technology (OT) systems are more vulnerable to cyberattacks than many data center operators realize.

Supply Chain Exploits: The Blind Spots Operators Need to Address

Severe cyberattacks originating from IT and OT supply chains are on the rise. Often these attacks exploit third parties that may be connected to — or have intermittent access to — the operator’s internal network.

360 Security Posture

Uptime Institute also offers a 360 review of the security posture of critical connected services through the LEET Security Rating services. The rating evaluates ICT services and digital infrastructure across three dimensions: Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability, awarding a three-letter score from A+ to D. When combined with its LEET TPRM (Third-Party Risk Management) and LEET EASM (External Attack Surface Management) solutions, organizations can gain unparalleled insight into their own security posture, that of their third parties, and identify and mitigate cyber vulnerabilities to strengthen their cyber resilience.
